Ricky-Tick Big Band record release at Jazz Heat Bongo Beat Friday 21 May

This is, as they say, "da bomb". Just imagine it: 15 Finnish jazz A-listers in the same big band performing originals composed and conducted by Valtteri Pöyhönen (of Dalindèo), one of the foremost young go-getters in the jazz scene. This is exactly what is going down at Jazz Heat Bongo Beat at Helsinki's Korjaamo venue on Friday 21 May.

Ricky-Tick Big Band features the likes of Jukka Eskola, Timo Lassy, Antti Hynninen, Antti Lötjönen, Jaska Lukkarinen, plus many more, shoulder to shoulder with Antti Sarpila, one of the greatest big band players around. Sarpila's clarinet is strongly featured in Pöyhöneon's compositions, which dig deep into the early days of swing jazz via modal tradition and Ethiopian vibes, all effortlessly mixed for good measure and distilled through the Berlin-marinated composing touch par excellence of Mr. Pöyhönen.

The band's self-titled album is out in Finland on May 19 (CD/ LP coming soon), and features eight tracks, all scorching originals penned by Valtteri Pöyhönen. See the RTBB Myspace for a sneak preview of three of them.
